The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has launched the blog portal UDbloggen (blogg.ud.se). The portal is in Swedish only, but can of course be read in English via a google translate. The new web site, which is built on WordPress 3.0, is published on a separate web domain because “it’s tone does not really fit at the ministry’s official web presence”. The ministry is starting with a few text based blogs, and will slowly expand with images and video while looking for an appropriate tone of language.

In the longer Swedish version of this blog post I discuss the features of UDbloggen. In short: it looks good; has nice social media features; moderated commenting (not in all blogs); and I name some of the blogs (including the one from the Minister of Foreign Affairs).  Feel free to read my Swedish post translated by Google.

My concluding remark is that UDbloggen is yeat another sign of that social media has matured. And that the next big movement will centre around the institutional changes required to transform society for our current and future needs. My focus is on what we need to develop instead of having School.

Sweden Social Web Camp 2010 (SSWC) is an unconference taking place August 13-15. Without doubt this is Sweden’s largest event entirely focused on social media. This year around 450 people will camp (truly, in cabins and tents) on the small island Tjärö in the southern part of Sweden. The first rounds of 200 tickets released in May were sold out in 50 minutes. The second round sold out equally fast.

I did not plan to go, because I did not have the time. Yesterday night it turned out I got time. Thanks to Twitter I managed to buy Jonas Hombert’s ticket, as he could not attend as planned (a minor injury in his shoulder).

Sorry, this post is in Swedish only (basically contextualising a panel conversation between Eva Enquist (Provice chancellor, Malmö University), Anna Karlsson (Most innovative teacher 2010, Viktor Rydbergs gymnasium), and Richard Gatarski (inspirer, adviser and provacateur). WestreamU AB is a new startup, currently operated by me and my brother Henrik. After our first tentative trials about a year ago, for example for Sun-SIME (see the archived broadcast), our list of happy customers is growing. The same goes for the quality we nowadays provide. Briefly our ambition is that:

Everyone attending a WestreamU broadcasted event will see and hear an aesthetically appealing, unique, live, and engaging web cast. We strive for active participation, including those attending at distance. Our cost effective and highly mobile solution fits when good is better than a pricier best. The live mixed video we produce and stream is always locally recorded, to facilitate post production editing and on-demand video publishing when so required. We deliver good image resolution, but for organizers that demand HD broadcast quality other suppliers might be a better choice.

A proof of concept is the nice set of demo clips from events we have webcasted so far. As well as some demo’s of the technologies we are developing in our lab. Those clips are available at vimeo.com/westreamu/albums.

At the moment we are signing deals with customers to stream a number of events at Almedalsveckan July 4-10, 2010 (a major Swedish political yearly event, attracting enormous interest). For Handikappförbundet we are hoping to demonstrate some unprecedented solutions for increased accessability for people with hearing challenges. But the list of livecasts we will do in Almedalen includes other clients, and we still have room for a few more ;)

In addition we are particularly proud of being a gold sponsor to TEDxMälaren, an independently organized TED event. TEDxMälaren is nonprofit, organised by a group of students pursuing their entrepreneurial studies at KTH Royal Institute of  Technology. They all hail from different regions in Asia and approached me some months ago to ask if I could be one of their advisors. Of course I accepted, proud to be asked! So far these amazing “students” have impressed me beyond belief. So, when it came to find other was to support their efforts, it was natural for me to propose that WestreamU would provide the video recordings and webcast for their unique event.

As of today the list of speakers at TEDxMälaren include Bahvik Gandhi, Anton Abele, Mikael Strandberg, Karl-Henrik Robèrt and Brian Palmer.
